Eierland Lighthouse from the dunes of Texel.
Handmade watercolour painting by Ricardo Bouman.
This painting is part of the 'Netherlands in Watercolour' collection.
The painting is a so-called 'Line & Wash' which is characterised by a black line drawing drawn with a crown pen and waterproof black ink coloured in with a pigment-rich watercolour (watercolour).
The quick pen and brush strokes create dynamism and a playful look. The painting is in the category of Impressionism and illustrative line drawing.
The composition shows a Dutch cloud-filled sky with a threatening thunderstorm and stormy weather with a vista of the Texel Dunes with The Eierland Lighthouse and the well-known houses that fall under the municipality of De Cocksdorp in the distance.
Texel is my favourite Dutch holiday destination and I have been to the Eierland Lighthouse several times in beautiful, sunny or just stormy weather. When I am there, I always photograph the lighthouse and surrounding houses and the Texel dune landscape.
This painting is therefore also a compositional elaboration of one of my own photographic images.
The Eierland Lighthouse stands at the northernmost tip of the island of Texel and was completed in 1864.
