This photo was taken with the NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 50.0 mm f/1.4) during my Easter photo trip on the beautiful island of Sicily in the late, grey afternoon hours of 22 April 2022.
The location of today's harbour of Palermo is the result of the natural features of the coastline that have formed this bay since time immemorial.
Its use as a harbour by the Phoenicians has been documented since the 8th century BC. Until the second half of the 19th century and the last extension of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the two streams Kemonia and Papireto, which flowed into the Mediterranean here, could still be seen above ground.
From the 16th century onwards, cargo handling shifted more and more to the neighbouring New Harbour to the north.
The muted rainy mood lends the motif a mysterious and enchanting, fairytale-like atmosphere. The abstraction of the colour tones into classic black and white lends the maritime photo motif an elegant and timeless aura.
