The analogue photograph was taken with a slide positive film and the Nikon F90 X in southern Vietnam in the Mekong Delta. This fascinating motif was taken during my three-month photo trip through the magical Asian country of Vietnam in 2000. This radiant and friendly motif is ideal for hanging in the kitchen or dining room.

The Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is a huge labyrinth of rivers, swamps and islands with floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice fields. Boats are by far the most important means of transport and tours in the region often start in nearby Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) or in Cần Thơn, a very busy city in the heart of the Mekong Delta.

In the tropical climate, numerous canals wind their way through the mangrove swamps and rice fields - in the rice bowl of Vietnam, life is centred around living close to the water, as the river with its many small tributaries is the lifeline of the Mekong Delta.
Most of Vietnam's rice is grown in the Mekong Delta, but you will also discover coconuts, tropical fruits and sugar cane during a visit to the region. Due to its special landscape, the living conditions in the Mekong Delta are different to those in other regions. In the Mekong Delta, all the inhabitants have really adapted perfectly to life on the water and quite a few inhabitants of the Mekong Delta live on charming floating houses that blend in wonderfully with the watery landscape. Many water buffaloes graze on the particularly lush meadows on the banks of the river and you will often see heavily laden rowing boats gliding through the water.
