The ears are not located at the so-called ear tufts but on the side of the head, and are asymmetrical, not at the same height. Unlike other owls, they are not day-blind, so they can also see well during the day. The eyes are very sensitive to light and can see very well at night. The eyes cannot move in the eye sockets, but the eagle owl has 14 cervical vertebrae and can therefore rotate its head completely backwards. The combination of particularly good hearing and vision allows the eagle owl to detect small prey from afar.
