The Tauros is a special appearance in the landscape of natural grazing. Whereas the Scottish Highlander is boundlessly popular and the Wisent looks a little less friendly because of its size, the Tauros is a breed of cattle resulting from a breeding programme. The Taurus Foundation, Rewilding Europe and ARK Rewilding Nederland try to breed back as much as possible the characteristics of the aurochs by crossing cattle breeds. Cattle breeds such as Maronesa, Maremmana, Sayaguesa, Limia and Tudanca are used for crossbreeding in order to get closer and closer to the Tauros as a primeval ox. This is to use them later as genetic source material for the breeding programme.
