F-5E Tiger II during the Axalp Fliegerschiessen Airshow.
The Axalp Fliegerschiessen Airshow takes place at the Swiss Air Force's Ebenflüh shooting range. It is located in the mountains at about's 2,200 metres altitude near the village of Axalp. This shooting range has been used for target practice by the Swiss Air Force since 1942.
The exercise area requires a lot of skill and ability from the participating pilots. For instance, they have to stick to flying between minimum and maximum altitude, aiming and being able to shoot well with the on-board gun in a very short period of time. In addition, flying at high speeds, making sharp turns and steep acceleration creates hefty g-forces of up to 9G at times. A very impressive happening to witness up close.
