Flamingos have very long legs and a very long neck. They are real food specialists, using a special filter mechanism in their bill to filter small food particles out of the water. They live mostly around salt lakes, where they often have the place to themselves. The food of flamingos differs from species to species. Larger flamingos usually eat crustaceans, molluscs and worms while the smaller flamingos mainly eat microscopic algae.
