About "Four Art Deco Cheetahs"

by Karolina Grenczyk

About the artwork

Two cheetahs stare at each other and are also mirrored upside down. The whole is diamond shaped, giving the works some nice symmetry. The cheetahs are pale yellow with their recognisable dot pattern. The tip of the tail is white. The back green is emerald green.

I was reading a book on all the great cats, perhaps because I now have a house tiger and wanted to know more about her ancestors. I also really like the anatomy of cats in general. Cheetahs are the fastest of all felines and can run 113 km/h. They live in groups and can take down beasts much bigger than them. Fascinating, beautiful and strong.

The symmetry of the work is reminiscent of the Art Deco period, when beautiful bronzes of felines also adorned mantels.

I first drew one cheetah with fineliner and then edited it in Photoshop, after which I turned it into a pattern of four animals. The colours were also added digitally. The image exudes power, but also tranquillity. The space between the four felines is geometric.

I think this work will appeal to a buyer who likes the gracefulness of large felines, but also someone who appreciates its tranquil geometry.

About Karolina Grenczyk

My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
