They stand out brightly against the grey rough ice. They are from another world. At a children's party they were blown away, or one of the children let them go unnoticed, again on the way home. Perhaps they then floated up by themselves and got lost that way. The balloons look professional, i.e. not well run and self-inflated. Delivered by a balloon company, lots of them at a time. Always a few tied together. Then you don't miss a few. In the following night, it cooled down very quickly. It was winter. It started to freeze hard. The balloons in the air also got cold, they started shrinking and descending and, early in the morning, ended up in the freezing water and were stuck in no time. This creates a very peculiar combination. A cosy party and the chilly uninviting winter. A coincidental contrast. But also very poetic. The cold becomes less, the winter softer.
