In 2021, a cold front broke over northern Germany, causing temperatures to drop from around 10 degrees Zelsius to as low as -18° over 2 weeks. For many animals probably a surprise. While the kingfishers disappeared from the ponds and rivers, the cormorants did not seem to have been prepared for such temperatures either. At least this specimen remained rooted to the spot on its stone (at the pier in Warnemünde) while the snow fell around it.
