Glacier National Park is a national park in the US state of Montana. The park is located in the Rocky Mountains on the border with Canada. Six mountain peaks reach heights of more than 3,000 metres. It covers an area of more than 4,000 km² and contains more than 130 lakes, more than 1,000 species of trees and plants and hundreds of animal species. It owes its name to the many glaciers (English: glaciers) in the park; however, their number and size have greatly diminished since the 20th century. Together with Waterton Lakes National Park, located in Canada, Glacier National Park forms the Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, which was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
Saint Mary Lake is the second largest lake in Glacier National Park in the US state of Montana after Lake McDonald. The lake is about 15 kilometres long has a maximum depth of 100 metres. During winter, the lake is usually frozen. Several species of salmon and trout live in the lake.
