About "Golden fern in the botanical garden"

by Silva Wischeropp

About the artwork

I discovered this wonderful, golden fern frond in the late, summer evening hours in the greenhouse in the Botanical Volkspark Blankenfelde-Pankow.
The nature motif was taken on 26 June 2016 with the NIKON D90 camera (lens: NIKKOR 18.0-50.0 mm f/2.8).

The nature motif is ideal for all living rooms, bedrooms and workspaces and captivates with its warm, calming and enchanting atmosphere.

Ferns are a group of vascular spore plants that form the sister group of seed plants. The ferns include all vascular spore plants excluding the lycopodiums. They therefore include the horsetails, the fork-leaved plants, the viper's tongue plants, the Marattiaceae and the true ferns. They are often referred to as monilophytes, but the terms Monilophyta or Moniloformopses are not valid taxon designations.

There are around 12,000 species worldwide, most of them in the ever-humid tropics. Europe is home to around 171 species and Central Europe to around 101 species.

Due to their different growth forms, ferns colonise different habitats worldwide, although they tend to prefer moist locations.
The main distribution centres and the greatest diversity of species are found in Orientalis, Central America and northern South America.

Many ferns prefer shady places in the forest, in cracks in walls, crevices and ravines or near bodies of water, but there are also light-loving species.
