The Groote heide is a stretch of heathland sandwiched between the A2 and A67 motorways. As the roar of cars can be heard everywhere in the background, most nature lovers avoid this area. Fortunately, photos do not come with sound. Quite a few years ago, I used to visit this area much more regularly because it is nice and close to Eindhoven, so it doesn't take too long to get there, which is an advantage if you want to take pictures in the morning in June. For these photos, the alarm clock was set at 3:50 a.m.! That's not getting up early anymore, just getting up at night. A reasonably clear sky was predicted for that morning, which made me doubt for a while whether it was wise to go. Fortunately, what I was hoping for happened; the clear sky made it cool off considerably during the night and in the morning the Klein Huisven had turned into a huge fog machine. A hump of mist formed above the fen, drifting away in all directions across the heathland. In short, too bad about the dull sky, but the fog made up for a lot!
