Jet black are the beaches at Vík. This is because the sand consists of volcanic rock. At least as impressive are the jagged rock formations that lie in the sea. And that attracts not only tourists. Also the puffins (puffins) are often found at the black beaches of Vík.
Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland. From the capital Reykjavik you drive there in about 2.5 hours. The village itself is not very impressive and has only about 300 inhabitants. The beaches, however, are very impressive.
Most tourists navigate to Reynisfjara Beach. There you will find a free parking lot near the beach and a simple restaurant. You can walk along the beach and take a good look at the extraordinary rock faces.
