A book was compiled by Paul Verhees about Gemert's heritage for the Heemkundekring De Kommanderij Gemert. I took this photo for this book in the basement of Gemert Castle. I like the vault and the overall shape of the room. The vault appears to be distorted in the picture, but it is not. No matter where you stand in the room, it always gives a different sloping image. This optical illusion is caused by the ribs, which vary in length as they emerge from the oval. Currently (2022/2023), the Castle is being converted into a complex with high-end flats.
