About ‘Jaipur: Galta Ji (Monkey Temple)’ by Maarten Verhees

Galta Ji is een groot hindoetempelcomplex dat 10 km ten oosten van Jaipur ligt. Deze tempels zijn een populaire toeristenaantrekkelijkheid aangezien zij naar huis aan een grote kolonie apen zijn en dit heeft tot de gemeenschappelijke naam van het complex, de apetempel geleid. Galta Ji Jaipur is een unieke hindoetempel omdat het gecentreerd is rond een natuurlijke bron die is gekanaliseerd om zeven grote zwembaden te vullen. In deze poelen komen pelgrims om hun zonden weg te baden terwijl op rustige momenten de speelse apen in de heilige wateren zwemmen.De apen zijn van twee rassen rhesus makaken en langur apen en beide zijn volledig niet bang voor toeristen, dus verwacht te worden lastig gevallen als moedig genoeg om hen te voeden. De tempel Galta Ji Jaipur ligt iets buiten het gemeenschappelijke toeristenpad, maar het zorgt voor een aangename excursie van een halve dag vanuit Jaipur, terwijl de korte wandeling en het hoge uitkijkpunt van de zonnetempel de plek is om zonsondergang te zien.Het Galta Ji Jaipur ligt 10 km ten oosten van het centrum van Jaipur en is te bereiken via twee verschillende routes. De eerste methode is om een taxi of autoriksja te huren en rechtstreeks naar de tempel te rijden; een terugreis met een wachttijd van 1 uur kost Rs500-RS650 voor een taxi of Rs.250-250 voor een autoriksja.
