Jetty in the Lauwersmeer near Lauwersoog in the province of Groningen. In 1969 the Lauwerzee was closed by means of a dike with locks and the Lauwersmeer came into being. The National Park Lauwersmeer has now grown into a beautiful nature reserve and is a breeding ground for many birds and bird species on the one hand and water and residential recreation on the other. In 2016, Lauwersmeer National Park was officially declared a Dark Sky Park, a place where you can experience the darkness of the night without light pollution.
