The first Dreamliner was introduced to the public on 8 July 2007 (7/8/7 in US date format). The 787's first test flight took place on 15 December 2009. The aircraft, with registration N787BA, took off from Paine Field in Everett and made a test flight of about three hours before returning to Boeing Field in Seattle. The first commercial flight was scheduled to take place in May 2008, but due to various setbacks, type approval was not issued until more than three years later on 26 August 2011. The first aircraft was handed over to Japanese airline ANA a month later.
