"Lickable Landscape 3" is one of three encaustic works I made with recycled wax from an earlier, and unsuccessful, project. The earlier project was an attempt to make a realistic painting of human forms, but it came to nothing. So I melted down the paintings and collected the remaining wax. I was able to separate the colours to some extent, resulting in these red and purple tones, and a hint of skin colour.
The name "Lickable Landscape" came about because my wife came into the room one day and remarked that she would like to lick these paintings like this. When I made this work, I tried to sculpt the various landscape elements, resulting in a smooth and rounded edge.
