About the artwork

This picture shows a light-flooded window in an abandoned room, behind which nature has inexorably found its way. The delicate curtains that lightly cover the window allow the soft light to shine through, while the outside world is overgrown with plants. Leaves and vines entwine around the window, allowing the warm sun to penetrate and create an almost magical shimmer in the room. The curtains are slightly faded and marked by time, emphasising the melancholy and decay of the place.

The combination of the soft interior view of the room and the vibrant nature visible from outside through the window frames creates an impressive tension between abandonment and liveliness. Nature has begun to take over the room, but the peaceful stillness of the room remains. The wallpaper, which is peeling slightly, and the veil of the curtains tell of a bygone era, while the light and the plants symbolise hope and new life.

The picture radiates a calm, almost dreamy atmosphere and subtly captures the beauty of decay. It invites the viewer to approach the stories behind this window and discover the symbiosis between the interior and exterior.
