Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is a central German city on the Elbe. Magdeburg's Gothic cathedral is located in the centre and is the burial church of Otto the Great, the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Cultural History Museum traces the city's importance in the Middle Ages with exhibitions on archaeology and local history. The Romanesque-style monastery of Our Lady houses a gallery of contemporary art and a sculpture park. The 60-metre-high "Luisenturm" is Magdeburg's first high-rise building since 1990 on Erzbergerstraße. The Elbe swimming hall is the largest and best-known training and competition facility in Magdeburg.
It was built in the 1960s and completely renovated between 2001 and 2003. 8 lanes in the 50m x 20m pool not only offer the public the opportunity to bathe and swim, but also serve as a centre for competitive swimming. Due to its central location, it offers ideal training conditions.
