About the artwork

*** Attention: Real photography - no AI! ***

This photo of the fascinating cave town of Matera was taken shortly after sunset in a long exposure. It shows the Chiesa Rupestre di Santa Maria di Idris and the Chiesa di San Pietro Caveoso. The church of Santa Maria de Idris is located on a limestone rock called Monterrone, inside the Sasso Caveoso, one of the two famous Sassi of Matera. In the immediate vicinity, in Piazza San Pietro, there is also the church of San Pietro Caveoso, whose origins date back to the 13th century.

Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is located in the Basilicata region in the south of Italy. Matera is famous for the so-called Sassi - a complex of cave settlements carved into the rock face. These have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. After they were cleared in 1952 due to poor living conditions, the Sassi are now home to museums, hotels and restaurants, among other things, and are a magnet for visitors from all over the world. A few years ago, the town was also the location for a film starring His Majesty's famous spy (with a licence to ...).

Basilicata is a region in southern Italy. It lies south-east of Campania, south-west of Apulia and north of Calabria. The region is divided into the provinces of Potenza and Matera. The city of Matera is the capital of the province of the same name.

I hope you enjoy looking at my photo!
