Moose in the evening light by Rudy Haringhuizen

A moose crosses a road in silhouette, just as the sky behind it turns a vivid orange. Its characteristic long legs, large head and budding antlers are visible only as dark outlines. This makes it immediately clear which animal is walking there, even though not a single detail of its coat is visible.

What makes this image special to me is the encounter between wild nature and the human environment. The moose is not walking through an unspoilt landscape, but across a road, between road signs and a lamppost. Elements that are normally very ordinary become part of the same silhouette thanks to the backlighting.

The moment itself seems almost surreal. The warm evening air provides a beautiful backdrop for an animal calmly making its own way. For a moment, the road belongs not to cars and people, but to the moose.

By deliberately photographing against the light, almost all details disappear, leaving mainly shape and colour. The deep black contrasted with the warm orange and golden hues gives the photograph a powerful, almost graphic quality.

Hanging on the wall, this piece brings together warmth and adventure. The strong colours catch the eye, whilst the moose’s silhouette lends a sense of tranquillity and simplicity. An image for lovers of Scandinavia, wildlife and those unexpected moments when nature suddenly reveals itself right in the midst of our world.
