About ‘The catch’ by Rudy Haringhuizen

With powerful wing beats, a white-tailed eagle soars out of the water, its prey clamped firmly in its enormous yellow talons. A few drops of water still hang in the air, betraying the moment just before. Meanwhile, the eagle’s gaze is already fixed firmly ahead.

What fascinates me about this photograph is the combination of power and precision. The broad wings fill almost the entire frame, and in the warm light, the individual feathers are beautifully visible. At the same time, the story lies precisely in the small detail at the bottom: the fish between the talons and the last drops of water splashing off the catch.

This is one of those moments that unfolds in a fraction of a second. Photography makes it possible to freeze that single movement and see details for which, in reality, you barely have time. The position of the wings, the spread tail feathers, the clenched talons and the focused gaze show just how perfectly this bird of prey is adapted to the hunt.

The soft light lends the brown feathers warm golden hues, whilst the rocky coastline in the background maintains a sense of the natural habitat without distracting from the bird. To me, the image radiates strength, freedom and pure, untamed nature.

Hanging on the wall, this is a striking wildlife portrait full of movement. The vertical format and the enormous wings give the white-tailed eagle an impressive presence, whilst the warm, natural colours blend easily with wood and earth tones. An image for lovers of birds, wildlife and the rugged nature of the north.
