This photo was taken at an almost completely vanished glacier somewhere in the isfjord on Spitsbergen. A pool of meltwater very nicely reflects the soft colours of the sky. In the foreground is a large amount of weathering material carried by the glacier. It is a lot of stones and sand. This weathering material is called moraine. No trees or bushes or large plants grow on Svalbard. Due to the cold climate, only mosses and small plants grow, a tundra landscape it is. Here on the old grounds of the glacier, nothing grows at all.
In the background, other mountain slopes lie in the sun, and some of the seawater in the fjord is visible.
Barren inhospitality as far as the eye can see and yet it is a beautiful landscape.
