Naranjo de Bulnes: the icon of the Picos de Europa
In the middle of the rugged landscape of the Picos de Europa, the impressive Naranjo de Bulnes (or Picu Urriellu in Asturian) towers over everything at 2,519 metres high. This near-perfect limestone monolith is the dream of mountaineers and one of Spain's most recognisable peaks.
What makes Naranjo de Bulnes so special? Its steep, almost unapproachable walls. The west wall, with 550 metres of pure vertical rock, is one of the most challenging climbing routes in Europe. But this mountain is also a magical destination for non-climbers. From the charming mountain village of Bulnes, which can only be reached on foot or by cable train, you can take beautiful walks with breathtaking views of the peak.
At sunrise and sunset, the rock takes on a warm orange glow, which explains its name: Naranjo, or 'orange tree'. A natural wonder you must have seen at least once in your life!
Whether you come to climb, hike or simply enjoy the view: Naranjo de Bulnes leaves no one untouched. Here you can see the reflection in the water. Twice Naranjo de Bulnes!
