In 2017, I took a road trip through Utah and decided to end it with a stop in New York City. For work, I come here occasionally but usually only have 1 or 2 days. This time, I decided to spend about 5 days in this amazing city.
I had picked a few hotspots to photograph including, of course, this location, Top of the Rock, from which you have an amazing view of Manhattan. In the middle is the Empire State Building, one of the many iconic buildings this city has to offer.
Naturally, I got to the top of the observatory platform well in time for sunset to get the best spot there. First enjoying the view in all directions and hoping it was going to be a beautiful sunset.
The wait was rewarded, it turned out to be a warm colourful sunset with a thin layer of clouds above the city that were nicely lit up by the setting sun.
Satisfied with the result and the necessary RAW files on my camera, I headed back to my hotel. Finally, I edit the photos in peace at home, where I look for the right tones, to turn them into an atmospheric photo artwork for my shop here at Werk aan de Muur.
