In 1409, a new harbour was dug in Dordrecht. From that time onwards, the Voorstraatshaven was also called Oude Haven. The newly dug harbour was logically named the "Nieuwe Haven". This harbour is depicted on the map. In 1656 another port for ships was dug outside the city: De Kalkhaven. Because boats with a load of lime were a nuisance, these ships moored in the Kalkhaven from then on. As a result, the Nieuwe Haven was temporarily called Oude Kalkhaven. For a long time the Nieuwe Haven was dominated by the long masts of sailing boats. Presumably the sailboat in the foreground was still used for economic interests and not for pleasure navigation. In the 20th century mainly pleasure craft moored in the Nieuwe Haven.
