Niki was an Austrian regular international passenger airline, based at Vienna Airport.
Former Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda, resigned as CEO of Lauda Air after a long period of disagreement with Austrian Airlines who were the largest shareholder at the time. He bought up the then Aero Lloyd Austria in 2003. The airline began providing services under the Niki name on 28 November 2003.
On early 2004, Niki announced a partnership with Air Berlin. The two airlines saw each other as the low fare alliance. Air Berlin owned 24% of the shares in Niki. Niki Lauda retained the remaining shares.
Today, the former Niki is known as Lauda and is part of the Ryanair Holdings Group.
