A beautiful blue front door in Rennes, Brittany.
I love French doors. Almost never tightly painted, which gives them character, often in brilliant blue or green and, like this one, beautifully decorated.
Rennes is the capital of Brittany and is also known as the Gateway to Brittany.
On the day we were there, in September 2023, it was 35 degrees. We switched from a holiday home on the northern side of Brittany, to one on the southern side and passed by Rennes. We had plenty of time and, despite the heat, decided to check this city out.
Rennes is a student city, which always brings a cosy dynamic atmosphere. Lots of restaurants and nice trendy shops, combined with medieval half-timbered houses and, like the house this door belongs to, neoclassical buildings reminiscent of Paris with their Haussmann architecture.
I'm always curious to see what's behind these doors.
