About ‘Old and modern in Zaandam’ by Geert Van Baelen

The photograph captures a unique corner of Zaandam where industrial heritage and Dutch tradition come together. Between the massive bridge piers, a timeless scene unfolds: a classic windmill by the water, a passing boat and a cloudy sky that lends depth to the landscape. The clean lines of the concrete form a natural frame that draws the eye to the tranquil panorama. It is this combination of urban structure and historic charm that makes Zaandam so special. The interplay of light, reflections and rhythm in the composition emphasises the transition between old and new, between movement and stillness.
