About the artwork

Look at the black dot in this picture. Keep looking, for a very long time. Just at that button. What is happening now? What do you feel?

Are you getting dizzy? Or nauseous? Giddy maybe? Or is nothing happening at all?

Many people can't look at a picture like this very well. The white and red lines seem to move. They move away from or towards the black point. What do you see?

The picture shows a door, painted in traditional colours appropriate to the region. The black knob is an ornamental knob. Really placed as decoration in the middle of the lines and not meant to open or close the door with.

I think the 'ribbing' in the white lines adds to the effect, or would those just be decorative ribbing from painted laths? The harsh contrast between the red and white means I can't even tell whether the white ridges are on top of the red or in one plane. Funny how that works.
It does make me a bit dizzy. It actually feels nice, I'll take a closer look. What about you?
