Skyline showing the silhouette of Our Lady's Church in Grubbenvorst.
The dramatically flaming sky above the skyline dominates the image. The elongated clouds offer a play of lines with perspective that gives a strong sense of depth. The colours run from cool dark blue to bright warm orange-red against which the silhouette of the church contrasts extra clearly.
As a result, the photo leads your eyes along two paths through the image of this skyline: along the lines of the clouds and towards the church.
In this photo, the horizon is deliberately kept very low to give all the space to the impressive sky. Because the photo was taken in high resolution with a high dynamic range, the horizon is nicely detailed and the sky contains many colour gradations.
Behind the church stretch the floodplains of the Meuse. South of the church is the churchyard. The built-up area is partly late 19th century and younger and consists mainly of farms, residential houses and catering facilities. The church stands about 150 metres from the old town hall. Dorpsstraat, which forms the direct link between the town hall square and the church, leads directly to the church. The westwork is a landmark.
