Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘Peace and quiet at Yellowstone Lake’ by Kim de Vries

On the shores of Yellowstone Lake, the water lies still beneath the clear summer sky. The wooded shoreline winds gently along the lake, its reflection visible in the clear water in places. Everything about this landscape exudes space and tranquillity.

During my road trip through the North-West, I passed by Yellowstone Lake, a place where the vastness of the landscape almost naturally instils a sense of calm. As I walked along the water’s edge, the trees, the clear blue sky and the tranquil shore caught my attention. Nothing really needed to happen. It was precisely the simplicity of the moment that made it special.

What struck me about this spot was the contrast with the rugged wilderness for which Yellowstone is so famous. No geysers, no wild animals and no spectacular vistas, just a quiet shore by a vast lake. A place where you want to linger for a moment and let the surroundings work their magic on you.

With this photo, I wanted above all to capture that sense of tranquillity and space. The water draws your gaze into the image, whilst the trees along the shore provide depth and shelter. It is a landscape that does not demand attention, but rather invites you to pause for a moment.

The cool shades of blue in the water and the sky, combined with the deep green of the forest, give the work a calm and natural feel. An atmospheric photograph for those who love nature, wide open spaces and the quiet beauty of the American West.
