Playful Flowers in Paint

by Christian Ovís

‘Playful Flowers in Paint’ depicts blue and lilac flowers on long, dark stems. Three large, open flower heads draw the eye across the upper half and the centre of the painting. Their almost black centres contain tiny white dots. In between them appear smaller flower forms, loose petals and slender branches. The large petals shift from light sky blue to deep blue and soft purple.

Behind the flowers lie scattered orange and golden-yellow patches, which make the cool blue stand out even more. Towards the bottom, the colours blend with grey-blue and lilac. The background remains largely white, with scattered dark and coloured splashes. The stems rise almost straight up, lending structure to the freer areas of colour. Broad, rounded petals and fine lines sit side by side without the composition feeling cluttered.

This blue floral wall decoration suits a light-coloured living room, bedroom or study. Blue and lilac complement grey fabrics and off-white; the warm yellow provides a link to wood and ochre-coloured accessories. Against a plain wall, the slender stems remain clearly visible. From a distance, the three large flowers stand out. Up close, you can spot the small white details in the centres of the flowers and the scattered splashes of colour.
