About "Port Pripyat"

About the artwork

Old port at the abandoned city of Pripyat, once Russia's pride, a then new city with all modern amenities. There was even water skiing on this water. In 1986 this city came to an abrupt end by the explosion of the nuclear reactor number 4 in the Chernobyl power station, a little further on. A catastrophe followed and everyone was evacuated. The remains of this city are still there. By using infrared light I wanted to emphasize the nature that is taking over this empty city. Living organisms emit infrared light and trees, mosses and plants take on a red hue. I use the wavelength of 550 nanometers to create accents and shift colors just like the old kodak aerochrome infrared film did. In this way reality becomes more abstract and nature gets more attention.
