Somewhere in the northern hills of rokytnice nad jizerou Czech Republic stands this old truck. on a misty morning in January during a ski holiday that became a hiking holiday due to high temperatures, I took this photo of the 'Praga V3S'
you wouldn't say anno 2024 that these trucks from former Czechoslovakia are still in use and let alone parked in the vapid outdoors. Yet this example is in particularly good condition. This Praga is most probably a V3S and was also used in the Czechoslovak army. The design, is very reminiscent of a 3-year-old child drawing a truck. and that makes this car fascinating. after all, we are all still a bit of a child.
I can really respect the pride and work they put into preserving their traditions and culture in the Czech Republic. it fits within a country that has fought for years to preserve that own culture and national identity.
The mood I want to recreate with this is that in things that at first seem old and outdated can actually be very serving and even heroic in a special way. After all, it takes guts to ensure that your vintage car is preserved in this state. That requires attention, consistency and the most important ingredient, love.
