Pura Taman Ayun is a beautiful Hindu temple complex in the Indonesian town of Mengwi in Bali west of Ubud.
The temple is dedicated to the ancestors of the princes who ruled Mengwi until 1892. Dating back to 1634, Pura Taman Ayun is set in a water garden with a moat with lotus flowers on three sides.
Part of this temple are meru towers representing mountains, the place of the gods. A meru is a pagoda of three, five, seven, nine or 11 storeys.
The tallest meru of this temple complex is at the front in this picture. It has 11 storeys and represents Mount Gunung Batukau.
