A lady wearing a striped bathing suit sits in a beach chair and reads a book. Her bath towel is also striped. Despite the heat, she continues to read imperturbably.
I made this drawing when I was at Nesselande Strand. I like to go swimming there. The lake is clean and it's not far to travel from Rotterdam center. This lady had not seen me at first, but when I was almost finished, she did look up towards me.
I personally like the patterns in this work and the pose of the woman too. Her shapes also appeal to me. As a viewer, I take snapshots from someone's life and capture them during an activity they are doing at that moment.

I think this image fits nicely in an interior because it is a familiar scene, one that exudes peace and concentration. Also, this drawing fits nicely with the other observations you can find in the folder "People Watching. They are often done in black and white, but there are also a few colored drawings among them.
My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
