About ‘Self-portrait Mother’ by Foto Studio Labie

'Mother' is a digital self-portrait by Gwen Chatouani. It deals with a painful theme: the loss of a mother. Gwen decided to cut off contact with her mother four years ago.

This self-portrait shows how Gwen deals with that loss, and how she has grown spiritually as a person. She has learned to choose for herself, even when it hurts a lot. She has learnt to accept that sometimes people disappear from your life and that can have various reasons beyond your control.

Sometimes memories fade, sometimes they become sharper because of certain events. In this self-portrait, Gwen tries to capture those memories while letting go. For her, in letting go lies no judgement. Only sadness.

She wants to comfort anyone going through loss with this self-portrait. Loss is the heaviest emotion a person has to go through.

"Letting go does not mean that you no longer care about someone. It means accepting that some things are not as you would wish"

Letting go is not a sign is weakness or indifference, but wisdom and courage.
