In Loenen (on the Veluwe) the sheepfold can be found with a flock of Veluwe heath sheep. Every morning the shepherd takes the flock up the Loenermark to return to the sheepfold at the end of the afternoon. Around 9 o'clock I stood in the cold waiting for the flock to leave, unfortunately that morning it took longer than expected and the sheep were first allowed to walk around and graze on the large meadow around the pen for a while. The sheep were curious and unafraid and therefore walked quietly around me looking for the tastiest blades of grass. This gave me the opportunity to take pictures of the flock in the soft morning light. I really like the atmosphere it gives and become totally calm. At the end of January the lambing season starts again and lambs are all frolicking around in the stables. A period when I like to take a look at the sheepfold very often. One of my best internships was at a sheep farm where I helped with the birth of lambs and bottle feeding lambs without mothers. The smell of the sheep, straw and the bleating lambs remind me of this wonderful time.
