Curves under bridges I find enormously photogenic, like this bridge, near the monumental Graslei in the heart of Ghent, Belgium. The contrast was enormous on this February day around noon: the sun broke through and the shadows were intense. I decided to take my camera out of my bag.
I focused and suddenly there they were: three people walking back home with their groceries. With the light falling on the lady's hair in the middle.
Then along the other side, on the left, another person was walking with a bag. That person was on his way to the shopping area. To surprise someone with a package? Or to return something because he or she was not satisfied?
This image invites storytelling: the different silhouettes probably each have their own story.
As a photographer, this is also a photo I am immensely proud of: sometimes I stand in one place for hours to get a strong photo, sometimes you have it after just a few minutes. Here I only had to wait 15 minutes.
