In this spiritually charged work, we see a man on the road - literally between light and darkness. On one side, an angel reaches out to him, bathed in soft gold and pale green. On the other, dark figures tug at his legs, while a demon with red outlines tries to hold his other arm. The linework is expressive and chaotic, reflecting the inner struggle between good and evil.
The inspiration for this work lies in the constant temptation to stray from what is right. The devil (or Ahriman) here symbolises the earthly forces trying to seize, seduce and delay. Opposed to this is the guardian angel - the light that reminds us of trust, direction and faith in the higher.
The mood is intense and hopeful at the same time: chaos in the underlay, brightness in the distance. The subtle watercolour tones blend with ink lines, giving the impression of light and dark merging - just like in real life.
In an interior, this work brings depth and reflection. It invites introspection: where do you stand between temptation and trust?
