Part of photography series "Tenacious Trees", this Utah juniper has a wide-spread root system that has helped it survive countless years in this harsh high desert environment, where temperature extremes of 100F in summer and well below freezing in winter are the norm. It always amazes me that the natural world is designed to withstand such vast changes. When I last worked at Bryce Canyon National Park, where this image was taken, I would walk the rim trail as often as I could outside work hours, looking for these scenes., always marveling at the unique trees and rock formations. I hope these photographs will inspire you to love and protect nature wherever you are living in the world!
