About ‘The Guardians of Chimborazo’ by Lex van Doorn

On the slopes of Ecuador's highest volcano, Chimborazo, a herd of vigoenjas grazes in total serenity. This image captures the raw essence of the Andes Mountains, where the thin air and dramatic cloud formations set the rhythm of the day. Biologically, vicuñas are perfectly adapted to life at extreme altitudes above 4,000 metres; their exceptionally fine and warm wool is one of the most precious animal fibres in the world and protects them from the biting cold of the volcanic slopes. The technical precision of this work shows the interaction between the fragile animals and the monumental landscape with razor-sharp clarity. An exclusive work of art that brings the unprecedented power and silence of the high plateau into any interior.
