What happens when nature slowly loses its color? The World Is Losing Color – Part 1 is the first part of a triptych about the vulnerability of nature and the animals that depend on it. This surrealistic digital artwork depicts a world where decay has already begun from below, while higher up, nature is still full of life.

Two colorful chameleons are literally at the top of their branch. They appear to seek shelter among the last vibrant colors their environment still has to offer. Around them grow large tropical leaves and various flowers, including red and purple roses and striking exotic flowers. Moving downward, the leaves become darker, browner and drier. The vivid colors gradually give way to the first signs of wilting and decay.

The chameleons are therefore more than just the subjects of the artwork. Their changing colors seem to mirror their surroundings: as long as nature is alive, there is color. When nature disappears, that color ultimately disappears too.

The rich green, turquoise, red, purple, brown and anthracite tones create a mysterious and lively atmosphere, while the contrast between the healthy upper section and the wilting lower section gives the story additional impact.

The work is created from photography, combined with digital photo editing, drawing and 3D. Different elements are brought together into one large, contemporary surrealistic digital artwork, created entirely without the use of AI.
