A group of visitors to the Mezquita de Cordoba are explained the construction of this architectural cathedral/mosque.
After its conquest by the Christians in 1236, the Mezquita became the cathedral of Cordoba in Spain. Before that, the cathedral was used as a mosque. The cathedral was apparently built in the then mosque. The mosque was built by the Moors after the conquest of Cordoba on the site where a church had stood. Originally, there were more than 1,200 Roman pillars in the building. Both Moorish and Christian influences and/or features are clearly visible in this imposing building.
The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The imposing cathedral with its fantastic lighting, creating a mystical atmosphere, can be visited at set times and by reservation. Well worth a visit.
