Why is there a lock hanging on this chain. The chain that hangs on it disappears from view at the bottom, leaving the viewer to fantasise what could be hanging on it. There is also the question of whether the eye where the lock is attached can be placed over the opening in the big eye and is therefore of no use.
I chose to make this photo in black-and-white because it made the foreground stand out more compared to the background. Playing with the texture brings out the grainy surface of the chain and pole, which in turn suggests that it is already a fairly old pole. Two chains run out of frame so it is not visible where they are hanging from or leading to.
I am a fan of this kind of photo's during walks. This pole will be overlooked by many hikers, cyclists or drivers.
