Shot of the Toronto skyline, taken from Toronto Island.
During my stay in Toronto, I had the chance to photograph from one of the city's most beautiful vantage points: Toronto Island. From there, you look straight at the skyline, with the CN Tower as the striking centerpiece. It was a clear day, the water was calm, and the light was just right.
By using a grey filter, I was able to work with a long shutter speed even during the day. With this, I smoothed the water and gave the skyline's reflection a sleek, almost graphic look. The clouds were given a subtle movement, which gave the image extra depth without disturbing the tranquillity.
I deliberately kept the composition simple: lots of space for sky and water, so the city itself tells the story. No distractions, just lines, light and reflection.
At home at my desk, I developed the shot further. Contrast, sharpness and colour were carefully tuned to give the image that bright, modern look. The result is a visually strong representation of Toronto, a city that impresses, both in form and atmosphere.
