A tribute to Edward Joseph Ruscha (1937) he is one of the most important post-war artists from the United States, he came to prominence during the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. First recognized for his associations with graphic design and commercial art, he was admired for his meditations on word and image. His work is inspired by the ironies and idiosyncrasies of Los Angeles life, which he often conveys by placing clear words and phrases from informal and consumerist usage onto photographic images or color fields. He has created work in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, drawing, photography and film.
